New Waste Contracts for Municipalities Begin in 2010
The New Year will bring a change in waste collection companies for some municipalities in Adams County. The Adams County Department of Environmental Services assisted 21 municipalities in securing new three-year contracts beginning January 1, 2010. The municipalities involved in the new contracts are: Arendtsville Borough, Bendersville Borough, Biglerville Borough, Butler Township, Franklin Township and Menallen Township, collectively known as the Northwest Group. The Northeast Group involves Huntington Township, Latimore Township, Tyrone Township and York Springs Borough. The municipalities participating in the Southwest Group include Carroll Valley Borough, Fairfield Borough, Freedom Township, Hamiltonban Township, Highland Township and Liberty Township. Those partnering in the Southeast Group include Abbottstown Borough, Cumberland Township and Straban Township. Conewago Township and Gettysburg Borough each bid separate contracts.
The services, prices and waste collection companies provided for under the various contracts are:
Northwest Group: The new contracted services include waste collection, large item pick-up and bi-weekly curbside recycling, at a cost of $185.52 per year per customer. Residents can also obtain bag tags for $3.00 per bag tag. The contracted waste collector is Park’s Garbage Service, Inc from Mount Union, PA. Waste service is not mandatory for residents in the Northwest Group but those wanting residential service must use Park’s. Small commercial businesses can take advantage of the contracted price if they can meet the container requirements; the contract allows for 5 loaded containers not weighing more than 75 pounds, or exceeding 32 gallons each. Customers can contact Park’s Garbage Service at (800) 486-4490.
Northeast Group: The new contracted services include waste collection and large item pick-up at a cost of $199.92 per year per customer. Bi-weekly curbside recycling services, if requested will cost an additional $51.84 per customer per year, while bag tags can be obtained for $3.75 per bag tag. The contracted waste collector is Waste Management of Pennsylvania, Inc. of Camp Hill, PA. Waste service is not mandatory for residents in the Northeast Group but those wanting residential service must use Waste Management. Small commercial businesses can take advantage of the contracted price if they can meet the container requirements; the contract allows for 5 loaded containers not weighing more than 75 pounds, or exceeding 32 gallons each. Customers can contact Waste Management at (800) 433-7317. Residents in the Northeast are reminded that recycling can also be dropped off at the Tyrone and Latimore Township recycling centers free of charge.
Southwest Group: The new contracted services include waste collection, large item pick-up and bi-weekly curbside recycling at a cost of $185.52 per year per customer. Bi-weekly curbside recycling services, if requested will cost an additional $24.00 per year per customer, while bag tags can be obtained for $3.00 per bag tag. The contracted waste collector is IESI PA Corporation from Scotland, PA. Waste service is not mandatory for residents in the Southeast Group but those wanting residential service must use IESI. Small commercial businesses can take advantage of the contracted price if they can meet the container requirements; the contract allows for 5 loaded containers not weighing more than 75 pounds, or exceeding 32 gallons each. Customers can contact IESI at (877) 709-1700.
Conewago Township: The new contracted services include waste collection, large item pick-up, weekly curbside recycling and leaf waste pick-up (Spring and Fall) at a cost of $202.32 per year per customer. Residents can also obtain bag tags for $3.75 per bag tag. A minimum of 12 bag tags must be purchased and customers will also have large item pick-up, weekly curbside recycling and leaf waste pick-up. The contracted waste collector is Waste Management of Pennsylvania, Inc. of Camp Hill, PA. Waste service and recycling are mandatory for all residents in Conewago Township and those wanting residential service must use Waste Management. Small commercial businesses can take advantage of the contracted price if they can meet the container requirements; the contract allows for 3 loaded containers not weighing more than 75 pounds, or exceeding 32 gallons each. Gettysburg Borough: The new contracted services include waste collection, large item pick-up and weekly curbside recycling at a cost of $223.56 per year per customer. Residents can also obtain bag tags for $3.75 per bag tag. A minimum of 12 bag tags must be purchased and customers will also have large item pick-up and weekly curbside recycling. The contracted waste collector is Waste Management of Pennsylvania, Inc. of Camp Hill, PA. Waste service and recycling are mandatory for all residents in Gettysburg Borough and those wanting residential service must use Waste Management. Small commercial businesses can take advantage of the contracted price if they can meet the container requirements; the contract allows for 3 loaded containers not weighing more than 75 pounds, or exceeding 32 gallons each. Many of the municipalities involved in this competitive waste bidding process have cooperated for over a decade in order to attract better pricing for their residents. This process continues to reap benefits for residents by making the waste collectors bid competitively to deliver services in the various municipalities.
