Hanover Water Paving Project:  Hanover water has an upcoming project to replace water lines in the McSherrystown Borough.  This will impact residents and sidewalks on Main Street for the remainder of the year. For more information or if you have issues with your water please contact Hanover Borough Public works 717-632-3939.

PennDOT Repaving Project:  PennDOT has announced a paving project which will effect the Borough of McSherrystown and area travelers next summer.  This project is to pave state route 116 from the West end of McSherrystown to the East end of the Borough.  It is slated to begin June 2023.

esidents may submit items for consideration by the president of the council to be added to a future agenda by sending the request to the secretary treasurer at least 1 week prior to the scheduled council meeting.  If you would like to submit a request or a request to be heard by council on a specific subject matter during public comment, simply send an email with your name and address, the specific subject matter you'd like to discuss and when you'd be available to attend a meeting.  If you do not have access to electronic mail you may still submit your request by placing it in an envelope into the drop slot of the Borough office OR by dropping it off during normal business hours.   Your request will be considered and if added to the agenda you will be notified by phone or email.

Welcome Back Chief Michael Woods!
The Borough of McSherrystown welcomes the return of Chief Michael Woods from leave due to a line-of-duty injury sustained in 2020 while dispatched to a call for service.  

With unanimous support by the McSherrystown Police Officers Association, Woods has transitioned into the role of Chief Operating Officer fulfilling the responsibilities of the Director of Public Safety, civilian police chief, and Borough Manager.

Woods looks forward to working with the staff, uniform and non-uniform, in the development of policies and procedures to improve efficiency and reduce expenses.

  • Council in a 6-1 voted to install Michael Woods to the title of Chief Operating Officer fulfilling the rolls of Director of Public Safety, Civilian Administrative Police Chief and Borough Manager.
  • Council unanimously voted to extend an offer of employment to Chuck Perry in the public works department
  • Council voted 6-1 to approve a revision to the salaries and taxes ordinance eliminating their own pay and with the support of the Mayor the salary of the mayor. 

  • Notice: The Dog Park and Track at the west end of town is OPEN for use! 
Garbage/Recycling Note:
​***Garbage and Sewer bills will now be invoiced together quarterly eff. June 2022. Residents will receive first combined bill the first week of July*** 
Due to the recent fire at the York County recycling center, all garbage is being single streamed until further notice, this is due to the unavailability of a proper disposal entity at this time. The Borough will provide updates accordingly to Residents. 
*Neiderer Sanitation has requested that all Residents continue to separate all recyclables from regular garbage*
